The Madurai milk producers’ union and village cooperative society administrators have announced a strike on February 24, following unsuccessful talks with the general manager of Madurai Aavin.
The strike is expected to disrupt milk supply in the region. The union is demanding an increase in the procurement price of milk from ₹35 to ₹42 per litre or an incentive to bridge the current price gap.
The union has also highlighted that private agencies are offering higher prices for milk, which has led to dissatisfaction among farmers.
The strike is a result of the union’s frustration with the current procurement price and the lack of response from Aavin officials.
