Vaigai River Faces Environmental Crisis Ahead of World Environment Day

As we prepares to observe World Environment Day today (June 5), environmental experts have raised urgent concerns about the deteriorating condition of the Vaigai River, Madurai, Tamil Nadu, INDIA. The  Founder of Enviro Care India Pvt Ltd – Prof. Dr. S. Rajamohan highlighted the escalating pollution levels in the river, emphasizing the need for immediate action to preserve this vital water source.

Vaigai River Pollution: What Experts Say

Dr. Rajamohan pointed out that plastic pollution, particularly microplastics, poses significant risks to the river’s ecosystem and public health. He urged authorities to intensify efforts to make Madurai a plastic-free city and to implement stricter waste management policies.

Madurai Corporation’s Response to Environmental Concerns

In response to these concerns, the Madurai Corporation has announced plans to install surveillance cameras along critical points of the river to monitor and prevent illegal dumping. However, environmental activists have expressed dissatisfaction with the slow progress of these initiatives, citing delays in project implementation.

As the city commemorates World Environment Day, the focus remains on collective efforts to combat pollution and ensure the sustainability of the Vaigai River for future generations.
