On October 5, 2025, India’s Chief Economic Advisor, V. Anantha Nageswaran, inaugurated Aurolab’s advanced eye drops manufacturing facility at the Veerapanjan campus in Madurai. This state-of-the-art, 75,000 square foot facility is poised to produce 36 million bottles annually, positioning Aurolab as a significant player in the ophthalmic pharmaceutical industry.

Aurolab, a part of the renowned Aravind Eye Care System, has been at the forefront of providing high-quality, affordable eye care solutions. The new facility underscores their commitment to enhancing access to essential eye medications, especially in underserved regions.

Managing Director R.D. Sriram emphasized that the facility prioritizes quality, safety, and patient well-being, ensuring that each bottle meets stringent standards before reaching consumers.

In his address, Nageswaran highlighted how Aravind’s not-for-profit model not only delivers efficient and affordable care but also creates employment opportunities. By training and employing individuals from nearby villages, the organization fosters community development and self-reliance.
Future Endeavors
M.V. Muthuramalingam, Chairman of Velammal Educational Trust, shared his inspiration drawn from Aravind’s founder, Dr. G. Venkataswamy, in establishing educational institutions. He also announced that former Indian cricket captain M.S. Dhoni would inaugurate Velammal’s international cricket stadium in Madurai on October 9, 2025.
