In a progressive step toward inclusive sports development, Lady Doak College in Madurai inaugurated its Platinum Jubilee Indoor Stadium on July 9, 2025. This new facility aims to enhance athletic infrastructure and encourage physical education, especially for rural students and women athletes.
The stadium, constructed at a cost of ₹1.6 crore, includes a full-sized volleyball court and three shuttle badminton courts, all housed within a professionally equipped indoor facility. The inauguration was led by Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Minister P. Moorthy, who stressed the importance of extending such sports opportunities to rural youth.
Minister Emphasizes Inclusive Sports Growth
At the inauguration, Minister P. Moorthy called on institutions to provide equal access to sports for students from rural regions. He praised Lady Doak College for its initiative and urged them to extend stadium access to students from their Velichanatham satellite campus, which serves rural communities.
“This facility will not only benefit the students here but should also serve rural learners. Sports must be integrated into holistic education,” he said during his address.
