The Tamil Nadu Health Minister inaugurated new medical facilities in Madurai, including a ₹7.9 crore cath lab at Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH). This facility is expected to perform up to 20 stent placements and angiographies daily. Additionally, a ₹64.9 lakh impulse oscillometry system, the first of its kind in South Tamil Nadu, has been launched to enhance the diagnosis of lung diseases under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS).

AIIMS Madurai Receives ₹10.6 Crore Water Supply Scheme

The Tamil Nadu government has approved a ₹10.6 crore water supply scheme for the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) campus in Thoppur, Madurai. This project aims to provide 2.6 million liters per day (MLD) of water and includes the construction of a 7.2 lakh-litre sump and a 6.4 km pipeline, ensuring a reliable water supply for the institution’s operations.

The facility also focuses on employing and training individuals from nearby villages, contributing to local community development.

Addressing Waste Management Issues at Smart Fruit Market

A public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Madras High Court, urging the installation of adequate dustbins and improved waste management at the Smart Fruit Market near Mattuthavani in Madurai. The market, which houses around 300 shops, reportedly lacks a suitable waste disposal system, leading to unhygienic conditions and traffic congestion. The court has directed the Madurai Corporation to file a counter affidavit with photographs of existing dustbins and any plans to expand the facilities.
