Wings of Change: How 90 Women from Madurai Rewrote Their Futures Through ‘Vettri Nichayam’

Madurai, Tamil Nadu – In a modest training hall, filled with laughter, determination, and dreams of a better tomorrow, 90 women from different corners of Madurai gathered each day for 45 days under the state’s transformative initiative, ‘Vettri Nichayam’. Today, as they stand together in their final session, holding certificates of accomplishment, these women are more than just graduates of a skill program – they are torchbearers of resilience, self-reliance, and empowerment.

The ‘Vettri Nichayam’ scheme, launched by the Tamil Nadu government, aims to bridge the gap between talent and opportunity by equipping women with practical skills that can foster economic independence. These women – homemakers, single mothers, college dropouts, and young entrepreneurs – came with a shared desire to break free from societal limitations and create a new path for themselves and their families.

From Hesitation to Confidence

At the start, many of these participants felt apprehensive. For some, attending a training program after years of domestic responsibilities was daunting.
