Life trustee of Gandhigram Trust passes away

Remembering Dr. R. Kousalya Devi: A Lifelong Legacy of Service and Compassion

On April 24, 2025, the Gandhigram community lost one of its most dedicated and beloved figures, Dr. R. Kousalya Devi, who passed away at the age of 95 in Dindigul district. Her remarkable life of service and devotion to the community left an indelible mark, especially at Gandhigram’s Kasturba Hospital, where she served as the longest-tenured gynaecologist.

Born on June 16, 1930, Dr. Kousalya Devi dedicated herself to the medical field with unparalleled commitment. Over the decades, she not only provided expert care but also played a pivotal role in elevating Kasturba Hospital to new heights. Under her leadership, the hospital received multiple state-level recognitions, as well as two prestigious national awards. Yet, despite the accolades and honors, Dr. Kousalya Devi remained grounded and humble, turning down high-profile awards such as the Padma Shri, which speaks volumes about her character and devotion to her work rather than seeking personal recognition.

Her contributions, however, were not limited to her role as a physician. Dr. Kousalya Devi also played an instrumental part in the governance of the Gandhigram Trust, serving as the Managing Trustee and later as a Life Trustee. Through her leadership, the Trust flourished, continuing its mission of service to the rural community and preserving the Gandhigram legacy.

Her passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt by the Gandhigram community and beyond. In honor of her life and work, the trustees, management, and employees of Gandhigram Trust have paid their final respects, acknowledging the profound impact she had on everyone she encountered.

Dr. Kousalya Devi’s legacy is one of compassion, humility, and tireless dedication to the betterment of others. She will forever be remembered for her contributions to healthcare, education, and the Gandhigram community, and her influence will continue to inspire generations to come.
