Madurai’s public transport gets a boost with 32 new mini-bus routes. The project focuses on connecting underserved areas and improving last-mile travel. Inaugurated by Tamil Nadu ministers, it aims to transform commuting for rural and urban residents alike.
Madurai has got with 32 new mini-bus routes as part of Tamil Nadu’s Comprehensive Mini Bus Scheme to enhance connectivity, particularly in underserved areas. The initiative was inaugurated by Ministers P. Moorthy and P. T. Rajan. With over 65% of the routes catering to previously unconnected zones, this move will address commuting challenges faced by residents in rural and peripheral regions.
Across the state, 3,103 routes were identified, including 2,094 new routes and 1,009 revised ones, covering a total distance of 25,708 km. The project not only promises affordable transportation but is also expected to reduce private vehicle dependency and boost local economic activity. This initiative make Madurai’s commitment to inclusive urban growth and better public transport systems.
