Admissions Surge in Government Primary Schools Across Madurai – 2025 Update
Madurai government schools are seeing a record surge in Class I admissions, with over 5,000 students already enrolled. Key welfare schemes and upgraded facilities are behind the increase.
Madurai: Government primary schools in Madurai district are witnessing a remarkable increase in student enrolment for the academic year 2024–2025. As of April 11, a total of 5,380 new admissions have been recorded for Classes I to V, with 4,479 students enrolling in Class I alone.
Education department officials expect total enrolments to cross 10,000 by the end of the admission drive in June, marking a significant jump from the 9,500 new admissions recorded last year.
“The success of these initiatives lies in the combination of better facilities, strong outreach, and schemes that reduce the financial burden on families,” said an official from the district education office.

-
Smart classrooms
-

Colorful classrooms These changes have created a more child-friendly and engaging learning environment.
3. Extracurricular Activities
Schools such as the Panchayat Union Primary School in Y. Othakadai have introduced a variety of activities like yoga, karate, and silambam, attracting students and parents alike.
4. Early Childhood Education Initiatives
The launch of LKG and UKG classes in select government primary schools is another step that has encouraged early enrolment, particularly in rural areas.
