In the biggest ever drug haul in history of Pune, the city police have seized Mephedrone (MD) drug worth around Rs 4,000 crore in continued raids across the country over last two days, police said on Wednesday.

In a joint raid by a team of Kupwad MIDC Police (Sangli) and Pune Police at Swami Mala, Balkrishna Nagar and Dattanagar in Kupwad of Sangli district, they have seized total 140 kg MD drug worth around Rs 280-300 crore in international market.

Police have detained three people and inquiry was going on.Police have identified suspects as Ayub Akbarsha Makandar (44), Ramzan Hamid Mujawar (55) and Akshay Chandrakant Tavade (30), all residents of Kupwada in Sangli district.

According to police, Ayub Makandar was recently released on bail from Yerwada jail, where he was lodged for seven years on charge of drugs smuggling. He was acquainted with drug mafia.
Makandar was a former secretary of Krishna Valley Chamber of Commerce, they added.
This was the biggest action by police in Kupwad since 2011, when they took action against a company that produced Ketamine drug. Its directors are still behind bars.

In the biggest operation in the history of Pune Police taken over last two days, police conducted raids at Vishrantwadi, Kurkumbh and Daund areas of city.They nabbed Vaibhav alias Pintya Mane and his accomplices and seized MD drug. They seized 55 kg of drugs from a godown at Bhairavnagar in Vishrantwadi and more than 600 kg of drug from Earthchem factory in Kurkumb MIDC in Daund.

Vaibhav Mane and his accomplice Haider Shaikh were in Yerawada Jail, they were released from jail last year.Since then, both allegedly started selling drugs, police added.(UNI)
