With a budget of ₹167.06 crore, this flagship project aims to enhance urban mobility and commuter comfort. The modernization includes smart facilities, multimodal transport integration, and universal accessibility, with the project nearing completion at 94%.

Transforming the lifeline of the city, the ₹84.12 crore Vaigai Riverfront project blends ecological restoration with public recreation, offering walking paths, green spaces, cultural venues, and tourist-friendly features to revitalize the riverbanks.

3. Heritage Conservation Efforts

Madurai is investing ₹42.65 crore in preserving iconic structures like Thirumalai Nayakkar Mahal and decongesting historic areas such as Chithirai Streets and Pudhumandapam, ensuring tourism and tradition thrive hand in hand.

4. Streetscape Redesign for Pedestrian

The ₹50.21 crore design of the Masi Streets focuses on creating pedestrian-friendly corridors with improved walkways, aesthetics, lighting, and heritage-focused urban furniture, supporting tourism and local commerce.

Through the ₹135 crore CITIIS 2.0 initiative, Madurai is adopting a waste-to-energy model to convert municipal waste into clean energy, reduce landfill dependence, and improve hygiene with modern waste segregation and processing systems.
