The festival, which began on January 13 and will run until February 26, has drawn millions of devotees, creating new business opportunities and invigorating local trade.
According to Praveen Khandelwal, Secretary General of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), the Maha Kumbh has had a positive impact on numerous sectors. These include hospitality, food and beverages, transport, religious products, handicrafts, textiles, healthcare, media, and telecom services. The economic benefits of the festival are not limited to Prayagraj alone. Nearby cities, including Ayodhya and Varanasi, have also seen a rise in business activity, with towns within a 150 km radius experiencing significant growth. To accommodate the large influx of pilgrims, the Uttar Pradesh government has invested Rs 7,500 crore in improving infrastructure, including the construction of flyovers, roads, and underpasses.
