79th Independence Day Celebration in Madurai
Madurai marked the 79th Independence Day with an impressive flag hoisting ceremony at Ayudhapadai Maidan. Collector Praveenkumar honored over 300 individuals for their contributions in various fields. The celebration featured vibrant cultural performances, police honors, and a tribute to the nation’s heroes.

Madurai: The 79th Independence Day of India was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the Madurai Ayudha Padi Ground. Collector Praveen Kumar hoisted the National Flag and distributed welfare assistance worth ₹42,21,287 to 42 people.
314 officers and social workers who performed excellently in government services and social work were recognized and awarded certificates and prizes by the Collector. Among them were Dr. Palaniyappan for his medical services, Ashok Kumar, an environmental protection activist, and Inspector Jayasankar of Thideernagar.
School and college students performed colorful cultural programs. South Zone Police IG Prem Anand Sinha, Police Commissioner Loknathan, DIG Abhinav Kumar, SP Aravind, and DRO Anbalagan participated in the event.
At the Madurai Bench of the High Court, the National Flag was hoisted by Administrative Judge S. M. Subramaniam. CISF personnel saluted the flag. The event included a blood donation camp and cultural programs. Judges, lawyers, and officers attended the event.
At various educational institutions in Madurai, the National Flag was hoisted, followed by cultural programs. These included institutions such as:

KRS CBSE School, where Headmistress Suryaprabha hoisted the flag.

R.L. Institute of Political Science College, where Principal Balan Muthuramalingam hoisted the flag.

Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathi Science College, where Principal Sujatha hoisted the flag.

Several other institutions, including Thirumangalam, Perungudi, and various village schools, also hoisted the National Flag, celebrating Independence Day.
In addition, at the Gandhi Museum, a function was held where Educational Officer Natarajan welcomed the participants, and a garland was placed on Gandhi’s statue, followed by a prayer meeting. Certificates were presented to those who excelled in Gandhian thoughts and activities. Various social organizations like the Tamil Nadu Brahmin Association, Food Traders Association, and others also participated in the flag-hoisting ceremonies.
The Collector Praveen Kumar also honored 87 doctors, nurses, and health workers who had served excellently in government hospitals and health centers over the past 25 years.
Independence Day ceremonies were held across Madurai, with various officials, police officers, and representatives from community organizations taking part in the event. Flag hoisting took place in places like:

The Independence Day celebration also highlighted the importance of community involvement, honoring those in rural development, education, and the health sector for their significant contributions to society.
In the final portion, the Collector announced that necessary actions would be taken to meet the local needs like better street lighting, separate buses for villages, and building additional classrooms and community centers in rural areas. The government departments related to health, agriculture, and rural development also participated in the event.
